KOZI BayWin and Model 100 Pellet Stove/Insert
(Non-Wall Thermostat)
|
| Q: |
What is a pellet stove and what is pellet fuel? |
| A: |
A pellet stove is a heating appliance, which burns pellet fuel being
fed by an auger system. Pellet stoves work on the same principles
as a wood stove, except for the fact they burn more efficient and are more
environmentally safe. Wood pellet fuel is comprised of compressed
sawdust and ground wood chips. For more information contact the Pellet
Fuel Institute! |
| Q: |
Why do I have two air dampers? One in the front and one on the left-hand
side? |
| A: |
The rod in the front of the stove is the tube exchange scraper - not
an air damper. It is used to clean the heat exchanger. After
unplugging and cooling the stove, lift off the top heat shield and pull
the rod back and forth a few times. This allows any build-up of ash
to fall into the ashtray. Clean the stove and replace the top heat shield.
The rod on your left-hand side is the air damper. |
| Q: |
Does my pellet stove work if the power goes out? |
| A: |
KOZI Pellet stoves need electricity to work.
Without a battery backup and inverter, your stove will not work. You can
get a battery backup and inverter at your local home fix-it center. |
| Q: |
I just installed a pellet stove in my house and I smell smoke. |
| A: |
KOZI pellet stoves act as a vacuum. Proper operation of the unit
requires an air-tight venting system. If the venting system is completely
sealed and air-tight, smoke will vent outside. If there is a breach
in this system, external air will enter the system, preventing smoke from
venting out of the house correctly. If you experience this problem,
your venting was not completely sealed when the unit was installed.
Contact you installer and have them correct this problem. |
| Q: |
When I start my stove, two lights in the back of the stove turn
on and then instantly turn off. The stove doesn't work after. |
| A: |
Your feed control may be defective. Please contact a local KOZI
dealer for further help. |
| Q: |
My stove starts but no fuel feeds into the burn pot. All three
lights in the back of my stove are ON and BLINKING.
(BLINKING: Means lights turning ON and OFF) |
| A: |
Before you do anything, check to see if there is fuel in the hopper
or auger. There are three possibilities; the auger could be jammed,
the auger motor could have failed (auger bolt fell off), or the auger could
be slipping. |
| Q: |
My stove starts but no fuel feeds into the burn pot. All three
lights in the back of my stove are ON and PULSING.
(PULSING: Means lights turning DIM and BRIGHT) |
| A: |
You may have a loose wire attached to the auger motor or a burnt out
auger motor. Open the side panel and check the auger motor for a
loose wire. If the wire is not loose, contact your retail store
for more help. |
| Q: |
My stove starts but no fuel feeds into the burn pot. All three
lights in the back of my stove are ON, no PULSING or BLINKING.
(BLINKING: Means lights turning ON and OFF)
(PULSING: Means lights turning DIM and BRIGHT) |
| A: |
Your cycle timer is defective. Please contact the retail store where
you purchased the unit for more help. |
| Q: |
My stove starts but no fuel feeds into the burn pot. Two lights
are BLINKING and the bottom light is OFF.
(BLINKING: Means lights turning ON and OFF) |
| A: |
First, try cleaning the stove. If that doesn't work, the problem
could be either the pressure switch or the exhaust. The pressure
switch could have failed or the pressure switch tube could have broken
or become loose. Also, check to see if the wire leading to the pressure
switch is loose. If that doesn't work, check to see if the exhaust
vent is plugged, if not, you could have an exhaust blower failure.
Please contact your retail store where you purchased the unit for more
help. |
| Q: |
My stove starts but no fuel feeds into the burn pot. One light
is BLINKING and the two bottom lights are OFF.
(BLINKING: Means lights turning ON and OFF) |
| A: |
Either the stove overheated or the wire to the high temperature thermal
disk has become disconnected. To reset the unit, open the panel and
locate the high temp thermal disk on the right side of the stove.
Now, press the reset button located on the thermal disk. If that
doesn't work, check the wires connected to the thermal disk. If the
stove overheated, contact a local KOZI serviceman
to find out what caused the stove to overheat. |
| Q: |
My stove starts but no fuel feeds into the burn pot. ALL lights
are OFF. |
| A: |
Check to see if the power went out or the feed control is turned off.
If not, you could either have a defective feed control, cycle timer or
manual timer. Also, check for loose wires connected to the cycle
timer or the feed control. |
| Q: |
My stove works great, but it won't shut off! |
| A: |
The stove takes about 30 minutes to cool down (safety feature).
If after 30 minutes it is still not turning off, check for a defective
auto thermal disk or a defective manual timer. In rare cases, the
auger cycle timer may be defective. Please contact your retail store
where you purchased the unit for more help. |
| Q: |
My stove turns OFF after 15 minutes of initial startup time! |
| A: |
Check to see if the feed control is OFF or set too LOW. The auto
thermal disk could be defective or connected with a loose wire. |
| Q: |
My stove won't start! |
| A: |
Check to make sure there is power going to the stove. Check to
see if the push button switch is defective or connected with a loose wire.
Also, the manual timer could be defective. Please contact the retail
store in which you purchased the unit for more help. |
| Q: |
My stove starts and the auger feeds, but the igniter won't start! |
| A: |
Make sure your burn pot is clean. Once clean, if the problem
persists, the igniter rod may be burnt out. Please contact the retail
store in which you purchased the unit for more help. |
| Q: |
My stove is not operating properly. The damper adjustment
does not affect the burn rate. The flame is lazy and the fuel piles
up in the burn pot. |
| A: |
Several things could cause this problem. First, check to see
if there is a blockage in the vent pipe, exhaust blower, or intake air
system. Verify if the correct size of vent pipe was used. (See Manual).
Second, see if the burn pot is sitting properly on the burn pot stand.
Third, check to see if there is a leakage through the ash or loading doors. |
| Q: |
The flame in my stove is too short, even when my feed rate
is on high. |
| A: |
Your stove has too much air. Adjust the air damper on the left
side of the stove by closing it in 1/4" intervals. Let the flame
stabilize between each setting until the desired flame characteristics
are reached. If your damper is completely closed, and the flame is
still too short, check for poor quality or non-standard fuel. |
| Q: |
The flame in my stove is large, dark, and orange. |
| A: |
Your stove does not have enough air. Adjust the air damper
on the left side of the stove by opening it in 1/4" intervals. Let
the flame stabilize between each setting until the desired flame characteristics
are reached. If your damper is completely open, and the flame is
still too large, reduce the feed rate and check for poor quality or non-standard
fuel. |
| Q: |
My stove turns OFF when I set the feed to low. |
| A: |
Your stove has too much air. Adjust the air damper on the left side
of the stove by closing it in 1/4" intervals. Let the flame stabilize
between each setting until the desired flame characteristics are reached.
If your damper is completely closed, and the flame is still too short,
try increasing the feed rate and check for poor quality or non-standard
fuel. |
| Q: |
My stove doesn't produce enough heat! |

Your stove may have a defective manual timer or the igniter may have
been installed incorrectly. |
